All on 4 Dental Implants

What is an All on 4 Dental Implants?

All on 4 dental implant system is a revolutionary approach in replacing all missing teeth of upper, lower or both jaws using only four dental implants per jaw. In this system, there are two dental implants in front and two dental implants in the back at an angle of 45 degrees.

When are All on 4 Dental Implants needed?

Replace All your Teeth at the same time

All on 4 dental implants is desirable to replace all missing teeth at the same time with only four dental implants embedded in the jawbone. It is the best dental implant system for someone with less amount of bone left in the back area or avoiding other structures that might interfere with the placement of a straight dental implant.

It is an appropriate treatment for someone wearing ill-fitting removable full dentures which have caused bone loss.

What is the advantage of a tilted dental implant?

Tilted dental implants

By tilting the dental implants at the back, longer implants can be used with patients that have little bone left without the need for bone grafting.

Benefits of All on 4 Dental Implants

All on four Dental Implants are becoming more popular every year, and the after effects of replacing all the teeth on one arch can be absolutely amazing for the patient.  Some of the benefits are listed below:

  • It is a more conservative approach of replacing several teeth.
  • Two dental implants at the back are tilted to avoid interference of structures like sinus.
  • It does not require bone grafting.
  • All on 4 dental implants feel and function like natural teeth.
  • High aesthetics due to implants appearing like natural teeth.
  • Low cost for the patient, instead of placing several dental implants.
  • Say goodbye to ill-fitting removable dentures!
  • No denture sores.
  • Sense of taste is not altered compared to removable full dentures.
  • It prevents bone deterioration.

How long is the All on 4 dental implant surgery?

Length of the Surgery and Treatment

The surgery takes 2 to 3 hours per arch but will require fusion of the implant to the bone within 3 to 6 months.

All on 4 Dental Implant Procedure

Consultation and Treatment Plan

During your first appointment, the dentist will thoroughly examine your case to check if you are a good candidate for all on 4 dental implants. The dentist will take a radio-graph of your full mouth and CT scan to check other structures around and near your mouth. The treatment plan will also be discussed at this stage.

First Phase

The dentist will start by numbing the gums of the surgical site. Then, depending on the treatment plan, you will undergo either a flap or flapless procedure.

  1. With Flap: The dentist will do an incision in your gums then flip it to expose the bone. Then the dentist will drill a hole in the bone for the placement of a dental implant. After all four dental implants are placed, the deflected gums will be placed back by suturing it.
  2. Flapless: The dentist will not do an incision of the gums. Instead, a computer-prepared guide will be used as a basis for the placement of dental implants. A surgical template has holes and will be placed on top of the gums. Each dental implant will be drilled directly to the gums with the guide holes to correctly drill and position each dental implant.

A Flapless placement of all on 4 dental implants promotes faster healing because it is a more conservative approach that does not need incision of the gums.

After the placement of four dental implants, the dentist will insert temporary denture so you will not leave our dental office without teeth.

Second Phase

The dental implants will fuse to the bone within three to six month. After the healing period, you will be scheduled for the second phase. It involves attaching the full denture to the dental implants.
  • review rating 5  I got an implant from a Milltown dental. This is a very professional top class operation. I was very happy with the process and outcome. The dentist and staff are good people and easy to get on with. It was also good value as I shopped around. Would recommend.

  • review rating 5  Afraid to go to the dentist? Well you shouldn't be, I had been to a couple of dentists before Dr. Tom was recommended to me & I can safely say he is the best dentist I have been to. The care and attention to detail that Dr. Tom provides is second to none. I had been to one dentist, whom had carried out a root canal procedure, this treatment was a disaster, the root was not successfully removed, with Dr. Tom's guidance I had the tooth removed and a bone graph inserted. Since then I have had a dental implant inserted and the attention to detail during that procedure was first class. I have recommended Milltown dental to a customer of mine without a moments hesitation & I will do so in the future. I will use Milltown dental in the future due to the attentiveness from Dr & staff alike.

  • review rating 5  I've been with Tom since he was based in Glenview in Tallaght. Stayed with him when he moved to Milltown as he was always so professional and thorough. The clinic itself is lovely and always spotless. The work I've had done to date has been fantastic and also reasonably priced to be fair to him. I've recommended Milltown Dental Clinic a number of times to friends and colleagues and I will do again in the future no doubt!
